Whale-watching season occurs in the winter months from November through April. Just about all of the snorkeling tours mentioned above will stop and incorporate whale-watching in their tours during the season. Some companies do provide tours that are specifically for whale-watching.

Na Pali Explorer, 808-338-9999, 877-335-9909, www.napaliexplorer.com, Highway 50 in Waimea. Their offices are right next to the gas station, as you enter Waimea Town. Na Pali Explorer will take you aboard the Explorer II boat for a 3½-hour tour for whale-watching and education. The boat is equipped with hydrophones so you can hear the whales underwater. $79 per person.

Captain Zodiac Raft Adventures, 808-335-2719, www.napali.com, Port Allen Marina offers a two hour whale-watching tour starting in January that focuses on whale observation and education. All boats are equipped with hydrophones so you can hear the whales underwater. During whale season, you also have the option to take five- or six-hour whale-watching tours. The two-hour tour is $59 per person.
