Kauai South Shore - Poipu
Island of Kauai
Adventures on Water - Fishing
Sport Fishing Kaua`i,
808-742-7013, www.fishing-kauai-hawaii.com,
will take you on a trip to catch Pacific blue marlin, ahi (yellow fin
tuna), and mahimahi. They have private or shared charters starting at
$95. Even if you’re a beginner, the crew will show you how to catch
the big one.
Cast & Catch,
808-332-9707, has freshwater bass fishing guides that will take you to
reservoirs around the island on their 18-foot bass boat. They’ll
also help you get your freshwater fishing license. Waita Reservoir
is a good spot for largemouth bass, peacock bass and smallmouth bass.
Make sure that you have all of the proper licenses if you plan to do
any freshwater fishing. Before your trip, you can go online to obtain
a freshwater fishing license at www.ehawaii.gov/dlnr/fish/exe/fresh_main_page.cgi.
You fill out the information, print, sign and you’re all set. If
you don’t get a chance to do this before you leave for your trip,
Lihue Fishing Supply,
808-245-4930, and Waipouli Variety Store, in Kapa`a,
808-822-1014,
can handle it for you. Fees are $25 for a non-resident license, which
is good for one-year. You can purchase a seven-day tourist license for
$10 or a 30-day tourist license for $20.
Check with the Department of Land and Natural Resources, Division of
Aquatic Resources office, at
808-274-3344, before you head out. You can also find them online at www.hawaii.gov/dlnr/dar/index.html.
