www. princevilleranch.com, has a number of options for horseback riding. They take leisurely rides through the 2,500-acre Princeville Ranch, one of the oldest working cattle ranches in Hawai`i. You can go on the Waterfall Tour, which takes you across the ranch, with a short but steep hike to the waterfall. There are three- and four-hour versions of the tour ($125 and $135); the longer tour gives you more time on your horse. They also offer a shorter tour without the waterfall hike and private rides as well.

If you want a real adventure, try a cattle drive. They move their cattle every five to 10 days to a new pasture and you can see what it’s like to be a paniolo yourself. You’ll have to call for schedule and availability. It costs $135 for 1½ hours.

Silver Falls Ranch in Kilauea, 808-828-6718, is in Kalihiwai Ridge. You’ll go on a serene, peaceful ride through beautiful privately owned lands. The guides are knowledgeable and will point out plants and make sure you have great photo opportunities. It’s well landscaped and you’ll get the opportunity to see loads of plants, numerous types of palm trees and wild orchids. The horses are well trained and have an even temperament, so if you’ve never been on a horse before, they will take the time to show you what to do and
make sure you’re on the horse that’s right for you. They offer a few rides ranging from a 1½-hour ride through the property to a three-hour ride to a gorgeous waterfall and swimming area with lunch provided. Prices range from $80 for the 1½-hour ride to $120 for the three-hour ride. They also do private tours.

Kauai Polo

Kaua`i Polo Club plays a 13- match season every Sunday between July and September at Anini Beach Polo Field across from Anini Beach Park. Gates open at 1 pm and matches begin at 3 pm.
