Kaua`i Water Ski and Surf Co, Kinipopo Shopping Center, Wailua, 808-822-3574, gives private surfing lessons. Call for availability. They also rent boards.

If you don’t need a lesson, you can also rent a board from The Wave Surf Co, 1267 Ulu Street, Kapa`a, 808-821-1199. They rent long boards for $20 per day and short boards for $10 per day.

You can try out your skills at Lydgate State Park, Wailua Beach or Kealia Beach.

Kite Surfing

Akamai Kiteboarding School, 808-826-9340, gives kiteboarding lessons either on the north or east shores of the island. A three-hour lesson for beginners starts at $275 per person. All gear is provided.

Water Sking

Kaua`i Water Ski and Surf Co, Kinipopo Shopping Center, Wailua, 808-822-3574. This is the place to go if you want to ski up the Wailua River. You have the option to waterski, wake board, or hydrofoil. The rates are $120 per hour and $65 per half-hour. The rental includes ski boat, driver and equipment.
