Kaua`i Beach Boys, 808-632-0071, offers 1½ hour lessons at Kalapaki Beach. They’ll take you through the basics of surfing, safety and ocean knowledge. Then, you’re in the water catching waves. The lessons are $65 and reservations are required. They also rent surfboards if you want to try it on your own. Kalapaki Beach is by far the best place to go for surfing in the area.

Body Surfing

The best place for boogie boarding in the Lihu`e area is also Kalapaki Beach. You can pick up a board at Kaua`i Beach Boys, 808-632-0071, which rents by the hour, day or week.
