Kauai - Lihue
Island of Kauai
Adventures on Land - Ziplining
Kaua`i
Backcountry Adventures, Hanama`ulu,
808-270-0555, 808-245-2506, takes you through the old Lihu`e sugar cane
plantation to a zipline course built on land that’s not accessible
to the general public. You start out with a short ride on their 4WD to
the Lihu`e Plantation and the first zipline. You’ll get safety information
and gear before you start out on the seven ziplines down the mountainside.
Some of the lines are really long and fun. You end with a deli lunch and
a swim. Kaua`i Backcountry Adventures is a close second to Princeville
Ranch Adventures for zipline tours. Both courses were fun and thoroughly
enjoyable. The 3½-hour tour is $120 per person.
Just Live!,
808-482-1295, www.justlive.org,
tends to gear their tours to corporations for teambuilding activities
and youth and community building services. They do have tours for visitors,
however, such as their Zipline Tree Top Tour. This consists of six ziplines,
a 70-foot-high swinging bridge and, if that’s not enough, a dual
rope crossing that’s 60 feet high. You zip over pine, eucalyptus,
bamboo and mango trees. This tour is three hours and costs $99 per person.
For an added bonus, they have a unique Moonlight Zipline Tour. They
provide headlamps so you can see where you’re going. This one is
held during the summer when there’s a full moon.
If you want to get extreme about it, Just Live has a zipline tour that
includes climbing a 60-foot rock wall and two spectacular zipline runs
geared for the more adventurous types. This tour lasts 3½ hours
and costs $115 per person.
